HauptwerkTM Downloads

TERMS OF USE: The downloads on this page are a private resource for Hauptwerk users and those evaluating Hauptwerk. You must not make the website address of this page, or of the download files themselves, or the contents of the files, available to any third-party without explicit consent from Crumhorn Labs. By downloading these files you agree to these terms.

Important service notice August 2008: Since most Hauptwerk users were notified of the version 3.10 and 3.11 releases over the past few days, a large number of people are trying to download these files at the moment and the download servers are sometimes struggling with the load, which might result in incomplete downloads. If you are having problems, please simply try again in a few days when hopefully less people will be trying to download. Please avoid trying repeatedly at the moment, since that is likely to make the problem worse. Please see this form topic for status updates and more details. Please see also the download troubleshooting tips at the bottom of this page. Thanks for your patience and our apologies for the issues.

Overview

For information about the contents of this release, please see the release notice on the Hauptwerk versions page.

The downloads contain the full set of software and files found on Hauptwerk CDs and so can be used for fresh installations as well as upgrades.

Please note that these files are very large, and downloading would normally only be feasible if you have a reliable high-speed (broadband) Internet connection. If you do not have access to such an Internet connection, or you think you will have any difficulty downloading large files, please instead order the 'Hauptwerk trial/update CD' item on the Crumhorn Labs on-line shop. We are sorry that we cannot provide support on how to use a web browser or how to download files.

Hauptwerk version 3.11 downloads (the current version)

Please download one of the following packages, depending on your platform: Important note: If you have a licence for Hauptwerk version 2 and if you do not update your licence for version 3 before installing it, Hauptwerk will revert to running in evaluation mode but allow you to apply the licence upgrade at any time to restore full licensed functionality. A computer can only have one version of Hauptwerk installed on it at any one time. Once a new version has been installed it is not possible to revert to a previous version without un-installing Hauptwerk completely (selecting the option to remove all files) then re-installing the older version, which would wipe any existing settings (unless you restored them from a previous back-up). Hence there is no easy way to revert to a licensed installation once version 3 has been installed other than by purchasing a licence upgrade.

Hauptwerk version 2.21 downloads (archived)

Hauptwerk version 2 is no longer sold or being developed. Please only download these files if you have an existing licence for Hauptwerk version 2, do not plan to upgrade to the version 3 yet, and need to update your existing installation to version 2.21. If so, please download one of the following packages, depending on your platform:
Installation instructions

To install or upgrade Hauptwerk, please make sure you read and follow the relevant instructions in the installation sections in the user guide. The current version of the guide is available on-line or as a download in ZIP format.

Download troubleshooting tips

Please note that all of the files on this page have been downloaded, tested and installed successfully by us and by many users, and are re-tested periodically. If you have problems launching the installer after downloading, it is almost certainly as a result of an incomplete or unsuccessful download.
  1. If you use download manager software, and the above download links give an error, try entering the username and password for this page into the download manager software.
  2. If you don't use download manager software but the above download links give an error, please try clearing your web browser's password cache, in case you have an obsolete username and password stored for them.
  3. After download, check that the file size approximately matches the value given above with the download. If not, the file is incomplete.
  4. On Windows PCs, if any 'CRC', 'unexpected end of archive' or 'not a valid application' errors are reported then the file is incomplete or has been corrupted during download.
  5. On Mac OS X, if any errors are given indicating that the InstallHauptwerk.dmg file cannot be uncompressed or mounted, or has failed verification, then the file is incomplete or has been corrupted during download.

If the file is incomplete or was corrupted during download, please:
  1. First simply try downloading the file again.
  2. If the problem persists, try again a day or two later, when your Internet connection may be more reliable.
  3. If it still doesn't work, please try using a different web browser or a different computer or different Internet connection (for example, a friend's computer).
  4. If all of those fail, please instead order the software on CD by ordering the 'Hauptwerk trial/update CD' item from the Crumhorn Labs on-line shop.

[Please note: All files have been scanned for viruses using the most current versions of the McAfee VirusScan and Symantec Norton virus scanners at the time of release and verified clean. With some previous releases we found that the free Avast! virus scanner (only) incorrectly identified the Hauptwerk downloads as possibly containing a virus/trojan. This was an error in the Avast! scanner itself and has been raised with its makers, and was not caused by any virus/trojan in the Hauptwerk files. If you use the Avast! scanner and it reports that these files are infected, please scan them with a different scanner to verify to your own satisfaction that they are clean then temporarily disable the Avast! scanner to allow the files to be downloaded and installed.]
