Autre nouveauté: L'orgue Duurswoude 1723 F.C.

28 October 2007: Important information about Hauptwerk support on the new Mac OS X 10.5 'Leopard': The current version of Hauptwerk (version 2.21) does not work properly on the new version of OS X (10.5, aka Leopard), which was released on 26 October 2007. Hence we strongly advise against upgrading your Mac to Leopard if you want to use Hauptwerk on it. We have been working on support for Leopard as a matter of the highest possible priority, and we do now have a new version of Hauptwerk which works fully on Leopard. We hope to release that new version very early in November 2007. Full recommendations for audio and MIDI interfaces under Leopard, and other details about that release will be made available as soon as we can.

07 November 2006: Hauptwerk version 2.20 released, including first version of Hauptwerk for Apple Mac OS X. We're very happy to announce the long-awaited Mac OS X port of Hauptwerk, included in version 2.20. The primary focus of the release has been to produce a version of Hauptwerk for Apple Mac computers (both Intel and PowerPC G4/G5) running OS X 10.4 or later. However, various significant performance and usability enhancements are also included for all platforms, as well as many other minor enhancements and some bug fixes. Please have a look at the release notice for more details. You can also find some screenshots in the screenshots section.

We've found performance to be so good with the new Intel Macs and Mac OS X that they are our primary recommendation for a new computer to run Hauptwerk is now an Intel Mac. A licence for Hauptwerk covers both Macs and PCs, so there is no licence cross-grade charge if you decide to move to a Mac. Don't worry if you're a Windows user; Hauptwerk will continue to be supported and developed for the PC as much as ever - it is just that we would recommend a Mac when asked which platform is best for Hauptwerk.

We hope that there will be something for everybody in version 2.20; there are lots of improvements for Windows users as well as the new Mac port.

08 July 2006: Hauptwerk 2.11 patch released. Various bug-fixes and a few minor enhancements are included. Please see the Hauptwerk versions page for more details. It is available on CD or for download if you already have a licensed copy of version 2.10, or an evaluation copy of 2.00, 2.01, 2.02 or 2.10. Please see the downloads page for more details.

14 June 2006: Hauptwerk version 2.10 released, including new lower-cost Studio Edition. We are very pleased indeed to announce the availability of Hauptwerk version 2.10, which includes many major new features, such as real-time per-pipe voicing facilities, many major performance and usability enhancements, the new lower-cost Studio edition, the ability to import version 1 sample sets and much more. Please have a look at the release notice for more details.

From Hauptwerk version 2.10 onwards two editions of Hauptwerk are available: the Concert Edition, which contains all functionality, and the Studio Edition, intended for home and practice use and also as a very affordable upgrade for users of Hauptwerk version 1 or newcomers to Hauptwerk. The Studio edition has its polyphony restricted to 1024 simultaneous voices (pipes), no multi-channel audio output facilities, no MIDI output, no user per-pipe real-time voicing facilities and no wind supply model, but in all other regards is identical to the Concert Edition.

Also from version 2.10 onwards, Hauptwerk can import version 1 sample sets natively. Since version 2 now outperforms version 1 in every way, is fully backwardly compatible, hugely more powerful and realistic, and with an edition available at a modest price, version 1 has now been discontinued. We will, of course, continue to support version 1, but it will not be sold or developed any further, since version 2.10 now renders it obsolete.

Hauptwerk now uses a hardware-based USB dongle licensing system and we will be contacting all licensed version 2 users in the next few days to arrange to send dongles and 2.10 CDs to them free of charge. Owners of evaluation CDs will be able to download an evaluation-only 2.10 download patch and will be contacted shortly with the download details, or order the CD via the on-line shop.

Please note that there may some delays in processing orders and responding to emails over the next few days since we will be very busy handling the upgrade CDs and dongles. Please bear with us!

Also coming soon: a Mac OS X port, lots more work on simplifying and easing the process of configuring Hauptwerk, more flexibility for the Custom Organ Design Module, plus the usual stream of usability and performance improvements and bug fixes.

Thanks as always for your continued support, and we hope you enjoy version 2.10.

Martin Dyde,
Director, Crumhorn Labs Ltd.

Milan Digital Audio has unveiled the world's first virtual theatre organ sample set in Hauptwerk version 2 format, the virtual 1921 WurliTzer organ from the Virginia Theatre, Champaign, Illinois, accurately modelled and fully functional down to every last detail (sustainers, second touch, percussion, toy counter, rich vibrant tremulants, unification, etc.). It's a great pleasure for us to see all of Hauptwerk version 2's new features used to such good effect, and to bring Hauptwerk to a completely different sphere of organ culture.

05 January 2006: Hauptwerk version 2 released and Crumhorn Labs officially launched. Finally, after a good few thousands of hours of work, much patience from all sides, terrifying amounts of money, and not a little love and dedication from everybody involved, I am truly delighted to announce that Hauptwerk version 2 is available for sale. From version 2 onwards, Hauptwerk will be produced and sold by Crumhorn Labs, a new U.K. company of which I am a director, and will be available through this website. On behalf of Crumhorn Labs and everybody involved in version 2, I hope you enjoy using version 2 as much as we have enjoyed working on it. Please browse around this website for more details about version 2 and Crumhorn Labs.

Whilst we had previously intended to stop selling Hauptwerk version 1 after version 2 was released, we have recently been contacted by many people who want a low-cost organ system to continue, aimed at low-cost hardware, in preference to higher quality and cost. Since we value all of our customers, we have decided to continue selling Hauptwerk version 1 as a temporary measure, whilst developing a reduced edition of Hauptwerk version 2 for release soon, as our top priority, with most of the new high-end features disabled and some additional options to give a performance similar to or better than Hauptwerk version 1 on older computers, including memory compression and non-interpolated (fixed-pitch) sample play-back. All extra optimisations will of course also be available as options in the full Hauptwerk version 2 edition. The exact list of version 2 features to be included or disabled will be decided and published in the near future. However, the new reduced version will use the version 2 sample set format, will include the full graphical console and controls, ASIO support for low latency, but in most other regards will be fairly similar to version 1 in features, with a few key improvements.

We would also like to emphasise that Hauptwerk version 2 does not need very expensive computer hardware in order to perform very well, and that we have put at least as much effort into providing a higher core quality of results and realism as we have into providing features for use in or with digital organs. If you have a PC with at least a 2 GHz processor and 1 GB of memory, then you have all the hardware you need to get excellent results from Hauptwerk version 2 using really quite large organ sample sets. To demonstrate this, we recorded all of the audio demos on a PC with an old, low-cost 2.8 GHz processor and 1.5 GB of memory.

We very much hope you like the full edition of version 2, and hope you'll agree it has been worth the wait, and the increased price, whatever you wish to use it for, and whatever hardware you may have. If you have any doubts, we encourage you to order an evaluation copy from our on-line shop, the cost of which can be redeemed against a the cost of a licence if you decide to buy one.

We have also taken this website move as an opportunity to clear out all of the old news going back to Hauptwerk's launch in 2003, and only to move across web content that is relevant to the current versions. The forum, however, has been brought across in its entirety, and those of you who are new to Hauptwerk can glean something of its history from there.

We will shortly start working on the low-cost reduced edition of Hauptwerk for version 2.10, with comprehensive per-pipe voicing facilities, a graphical interface for the Custom Organ Design Module, a Mac OS X port and real-time impulse response convolver (reverberation) as high-priority major enhancements planned for further coming releases.

Once again, thank you for your interest in Hauptwerk, and we hope you enjoy version 2.

Director, Crumhorn Labs Ltd.
